For imparting outdoor training we have requisitioned the services of Border Security Force personnel in view of its excellent standards. A contingent of one sub-Inspector, two head constables and three constables has been deputed by BSF for a period of three years to impart outdoor training to the guarding staff at Training Institute, Medinipur. They are already imparting outdoor training from the 5th Batch of recruit warders. The induction of BSF personnel has helped help refurbish the Training Institute including its training standards which are now comparable with any Police Training Institute.

Faculty
A qualified faculty, including retired senior officers such as Additional Inspectors General and Deputy Inspectors General impart the training pertaining to rules and regulations governing imprisonment. Among the major topics of education are the Constitution of India, West Bengal Correctional Services Act, 1992, West Bengal Jail Code and various judgements pertaining to prisoners and prisons by the Human Rights Commissions and guidelines related to prisoners and prisons by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and other Courts of India.

Facilities
Adequate hostel accommodation (dormitory) with separate provision for the traning of women recruits has been made in the Training Institute. The other facilities include:
- Spacious dining hall
- Spacious class rooms each with capacity of 60 trainees.
- A firing range
- An auditorium fitted with public address system
- A well stocked library with reading room and lending facilities
- A computer block
- A Guest House in the campus for outstation faculty and lecturers.
Sports and Recreation
Adequate emphasis is laid on the physical and mental fitness of the recruits during the Induction Level Training. Facilities have also been provided for outdoor games. Apart from the playground attached to it, the campus also boasts of a badminton court. Provisions have been made for yoga and meditation.
The Recreation Room has facilities for indoor games like carom, chess and table tennis. Other facilities include television, daily newspapers and magazines are also made available to recruits. The Institute also plans to have a multi-gym of its own.
