Mr. Sanjoy Mukherjee, IPS
Principal Secretary, Deptt of Correctional Administration

Shri Sanjoy Mukherjee stood fifth in All India in the IPS batch of 1989. He worked for four years as SP of CBI. His five years in Kolkata Police culminated with Deputy Commissioner (Head Quarters). He then worked for 3½ years as DIG and Special IG of CID.He was subsequently posted as the last IG of undivided South Bengal Zone. After completing 2 ½ years there, he joined as the first Police Commissioner of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate. His tenure of 2½ years as Director General of West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services witnessed an increase in efficiency and transparency. He then joined the Directorate of Security, subsequently becoming Chief of CID. He completed his MBA from IIM Calcutta in 1988.He is on the Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta, in his personal capacity. He was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2005, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2015 and Chief Minister’s Police Medal for Outstanding Service in 2016. He joined as Principal Secretary, Department of Correctional Administration on 12.06.2018.

Mr. Arun Kumar Gupta, IPS
OSD & Ex-Officio DG & IG of Correctional Services, West Bengal

Sri Arun Kumar Gupta a 1985 batch IPS Officer of West Bengal took the charge of ADG & IG of Correctional Services in October, 2015 and was subsequently promoted as DG & IG of Correctional Services, WB in April, 2016. Before joining this department he held various important assignments throughout his career in West Bengal and on deputation to CBI and also performed UN peace keeping operation in Mozambique. The Officer, as SP and DIG, CBI supervised the investigation of cases of national importance and his contribution was recognized by Director, CBI. As DIG Coordination and INTERPOL CBI, he participated in negotiations of various extradition and MLAT treaties and also attended the INTERPOL General Assembly in Cameroon and Spain. The officers also completed his LLM from Kurukshetra University and LLM in International Criminal Law from Sussex University, UK. In recognition of his services, he was awarded with UN Peace Medal and the President Police Medal in 2002. As the Chief Officer of West Bengal Correctional Homes and Correctional Services, Sri Gupta emphasized on productive utilization of human resources incarcerated in Correctional Homes of the State. The sick Correctional Home Industries has become rejuvenated through various skill development programmes initiated by him. Besides, he always cares to response to different welfare activities for the prisoners. Differrent programmes under Culture Therapy have got his active support for mental upliftment of the inmates.
