We are encouraging prisoners’ children living back home in the community to participate in National Children’s Science Congress organized by NCSTC, New Delhi under Department of Science & Technology, Government of India for last two years. Whereas we arranged to send one team of two prisoners’ children to 15th National Children’s Science Congress in 2007 at Baramali, Pune, in 2008 we sent 6 such children in two teams to participate in the 16th National Children’s Science Congress. We also organized their coaching by our own staff in association with NCSTC. As a result one team out of two qualified for the national level event. Moloy Naskar S/O Murari Mohan Naskar of South 24-Parganas District represented his team at the National event held at Dimapur, Nagaland from 27.12.08 – 31.12.08.

Ground Level Social Workers’ Training
We have undertaken another programme – Ground Level Social Workers’ Training at New Delhi for the boys beyond 15 yrs of age having the minimum qualification of Madhyamik pass in association with National Legal Services Authority at New Delhi. We selected 25 such prisoners’ children for 18 months’ course at New Delhi. There they had training in cooking to nursing, from corpse disposal to computer literacy. During the course they were given a monthly stipend of Rs.2500/-. A few of them have got jobs in private agencies throughout India / in different cities of India on completion of their training.
Prisoners’ Children in National Children’s Science Congress
We intend to take some concrete steps in the coming year for suring participation of correctional family children at a much bigger scale. Participation with other children of civil society on such a platform at national level will surely help these children of marginalized section to uphold their moral and confidence.
