In this context it may not be out of place to mention here that in the sub correctional homes only the undertrials of the local courts having jurisdiction are housed and in the open air correctional home at Lalgola only male life convicts having shown exemplary behaviour as a prisoner in the concerned central correctional home are admitted. Some of them are allowed to keep their family in the cottages, on the condition that the convict would provide for his family members from his daily wages, either by working honestly within the correctional home premises or outside the correctional home. This open-air concept has indeed paved the path for bringing the convict back in the mainstream of the social fabric.
