bringing about change. With this aim in view West Bengal Correctional Services has been organizing State Level Dialogues with NGOs and Social Organizations since 2006. The event has by now become an annual feature. Such Dialogue with NGOs is an opportunity for us to explore the possibility of enhancing the participation level of NGOs as far as activities within the prisons are concerned.

First State Level Dialogue with The NGO/Social Organizations

Date : 31.07.2006, Venue : Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata

The Dialogue started at 10.30 A.M. Shri B. D. Sharma, IPS, Inspector General of Correctional Services, West Bengal, while delivering welcome address extended a warm welcome to the delegates at the first ever Dialogue with NGOs and social organizations at the state level. He informed the delegates that the purpose of interaction was to seek their views for Draft National Policy on Prison Reforms and Correctional Administration as also to explore the possibility of mutual cooperation in various prison activities. Second State Level Dialogue With The NGO/Social Organizations

The Dialogue started at 11 o’clock at Basement Auditorium, State Government Circuit House, 9/1, Hungerford Street, Kolkata. Sri B.D. Sharma, IPS, Inspector General of Correctional Services in his welcome address extended a warm welcome to the delegates at the Second State Level Dialogue. Third State Level Dialogue with The NGO/Social Organizations

Sri B.D.Sharma, IG of Correctional Services welcomed all the delegates and representatives of different NGO / Social Organizations for responding to the invitation for the Third Annual State Level Dialogue. He thanked the NGOs and Social Organizations for their valuable contribution towards a number of prison reforms introduced in the State and acknowledged that but for their support it would not have been possible for the West Bengal Correctional Services to undertake a number of works both inside the correctional homes as well as for the benefit of the prisoners’ family members living in the community.
